When sexy.selektor reached out to offer a mix for our podcast series, it only took one look at his Instagram to know he was a perfect match.
From his base in Gran Canaria, he wanders through the deeper corners of the internet, in search of music and visuals that resonate with his own aesthetic obsessions. On his page, these fragments become an audiovisual collage that maps out his set of influences: pixelated relics, retro graphics, forgotten cover art and obscure electronic music are stitched together into his own fractured, hyper-curated universe.
Behind this meticulous expression is not just a collector, but also a sharp DJ with a distinctive voice. His selections drift between shifting energy and slow, dreamlike moods: trippy downtempo, silky electronica, and grooves that feel suspended in time. His ER podcast is designed to move slowly and patiently, allowing sounds and textures to breathe, rewarding the listener with subtle details that only reveal themselves over time.
Can you introduce yourself in a few words?
I’m sexy.selektor, a music collector and passionate for everything that’s good to my ears, a graphic designer in my free time, and a dj obsessed with digging, curating, and creating little universes through sound and visuals.
What can you tell us about your personal journey with DJing and collecting music?
It started out of pure curiosity and a genuine love for music, spending hours searching for sounds that resonate with me and myself, then realizing that mixing them together could tell a story, as a mirror reflects your figure, the music you choose to play is the reflection of your mood at that time.
Collecting music became an extension of who I am: each record or file is a fragment of memory, feeling, or obsession. Over time, DJing became the natural way to share that collection and energy with others.
You started your sexy.selektor Instagram page as a way to curate sounds and graphics, with a lot of references to video games and music artworks. What motivated you to begin this project, and what can you tell us about it?
The page was born as a playground, a space where I could connect my two passions: music and visual culture. Video games, cover art, y2k graphics… they all influenced me growing up deeply. I wanted to build an archive that reflects those aesthetics while curating sounds that match them. It’s a way of showing that music isn’t just for listening, it’s also visual, cultural, and emotional.
Can you tell us about your discovery process, and what are some of your favorite places for finding new music?
I spend a lot of time on Discogs, digging through forgotten labels and compilations, as well as visiting local record shops whenever I travel, not much :D. I also end up down the youtube lanes and other people’s personal blogs around the internet, places where you can still find weird, overlooked tracks. Of course, conversations with other DJs and friends often lead me to new discoveries too.
What can you say about the mix you recorded for us?
This mix is like an interpretation of my current state of mind when thinking of sexy.selektor, slow, emotional, and unexpected. I wanted to blend tracks that speak to each other across genres and eras, while keeping that balance between groove and experimentation. It’s a personal selection meant to be discovered slowly, with details that reveal themselves on repeat listens. I’m satisfied with the results and also to have the chance to share it with the world through this platform, could not be happier, thank you very much ^^.
